Download Mac beta

Open the .dmg and drag nika into Applications. Then open nika and sign in with your invited account. Python is included, there is nothing else to install for nika.

Not notarised by Apple. macOS may block the first launch. Only install if you trust this download. Follow Apple’s per-app approval instructions; do not turn off your Mac’s security protection. Managed Macs may not allow this beta.

Full customer account and payment testing is still in progress. Do not replace a personal/founder nika installation with this customer beta. An Intel Mac version is not available.

Cards you’d recognise as your own.

The aim is to make nika’s cards indistinguishable from the ones you would write yourself. Tell it what you study, how much detail you want and how you like to test yourself. Short cloze cards for facts? Q&A for explanations? Hidden labels for anatomy? Keep the combinations that work for you.

With personal learning enabled, your reviewed edits and chosen Anki decks supply examples of your style. Future batches can use that evidence, so you don’t have to explain the same preferences every time. Exact style matching is not guaranteed, and you always get the final edit.

Change your defaults any time, or give one batch a different instruction without changing the rest. Setup is optional: skip it, save progress or edit it later. Shared model training is a separate, optional choice.

Pretrained AI gives nika a head start. Machine learning (ML) helps select cards that fit your style. Your source material stays the basis for the answers.

AI writes from your material.

A large language model (LLM), a pretrained neural network for language, drafts cards from your source alongside your saved preferences and relevant examples. You choose Instant, Balanced or Advanced generation.

ML helps find your style.

A machine-learning ranker scores candidate cards using patterns in wording and structure. Reviewed examples and your preference profile guide future requests, helping keep the length, format and tone closer to yours.

Vision helps with what you see.

Image tools turn screenshots and diagrams into card material, including hidden-label image occlusion. A separate CNN helps recognise PassMedicine results, so mistakes can become the next cards you review.

Personalisation uses preferences and reviewed examples, not automatic retraining of the underlying language or vision models after every use. Your edits are not proof that a card is factually correct. AI can make mistakes, so check each card against its source. Shared training only uses examples you explicitly choose to share.

How will I get started?

The Mac beta needs an invited account. Contact support if you need access. Install it, confirm your invitation and sign in. Public signup and paid plans are still being tested. Answer a few short questions, or skip them, then create and review your first cards. Free is your starting plan.

Do purchases stay inside the app?

You choose your plan or credit top-up in nika. Secure Stripe Checkout or the billing portal may briefly open in your browser to complete payment or manage the subscription. Your plan and credits then update in the app after payment is confirmed.

Do I need Anki?

nika creates cards for Anki; it does not replace Anki’s study scheduler. Direct sync needs Anki desktop and AnkiConnect configured. You can also use the app’s export tools.

Will AI always get the answer right?

No. AI can make mistakes or miss important context. Read each card, check it against your source and edit it before adding it to your deck.

Are my notes used to train a shared model?

Only if you opt in and choose individual, reviewed examples to share. It is never required for a plan. You can withdraw permission and remove your shared examples. Your normal account preferences and private learning examples are separate.

How do AI credits work?

Credits cover AI processing, not a fixed number of cards. Full PDFs and deeper processing can use more credits. Monthly credits reset at the start of each UTC calendar month without rollover, including on annual plans. Welcome and purchased credits carry forward while your account is open. Need more? Add 100 credits for £4.99.

What do the screenshots show?

The real nika desktop interface using example study material and example numbers. They show the workflow, not measured customer results.
